As a visual creative, the thought of typing out 300+ words of copy can feel daunting. However, at the same time, you know the power of blogging for your business. You know that your clients are Googling (and social media searching) themselves into oblivion while they are planning their wedding. You know that blogging is a great organic SEO tool to put your business in front of your ideal clients. And you know that there is some majorly fierce competition in your local wedding vendor community, but you’re ready to drive some of that traffic your way!

But where do you begin? How do you keep a steady influx of blogs published to your website in order to reach your ideal clients? Your blog should aim to be a resource for your potential couples at any stage of their wedding planning process. Your couples should be able to find your business when they are thinking about getting engaged, once they are engaged, and when they are in the beginning phases of planning their wedding. That’s a whole lot of ground to cover right?! Here are 5 blog post ideas for wedding photographers that will put you on the radar of your ideal clients in any of those stages!

1) Engagement Sessions

Your engagement sessions are typically the first round of shooting with your soon-to-be married couple. Blogging their engagement session is a great way to welcome them into your orbit. Through blogging their engagement session you have the ability to tell the beginning of their story, all the fun stuff like how they met and where their first date was! You can also incorporate their proposal story before closing with a few shots from their engagement session. If you are really on top of things, get their engagement sessions blogged before their wedding day! Sharing & tagging your couple on social media will increase the excitement in the days leading up to their wedding day!

Blogging your couple’s engagement sessions is also an amazing way to highlight local hot spots that your couples frequent for their engagement photos. This is a great tool for search engine visibility, it puts your content right in front of couples who are looking to get engaged soon!

2) Wedding Galleries

As a wedding photographer, blogging your wedding galleries is a non-negotiable. When my clients come to me to outsource the blogging for their wedding photography business, I set them up with a minimum of one wedding gallery per week!

I hear you saying “Ok, but I don’t have that many wedding galleries to blog!” I would first tell you to look back into older galleries that still match your current branding. Secondly, I would tell you to look ahead at what couples you have booked for the upcoming season. All of those weddings would get pushed to your content calendar first. If you still don’t have a whole bunch of wedding galleries, the next thing you want to do is recycle any old content, even if it was already blogged! Older content can be broken down and repurposed into any of the other blog post ideas for wedding photographers listed in this post.

Why am I putting so much emphasis on blogging your wedding galleries? This is primarily where you will be found on Google by your ideal clients. So your blogging strategy has to lead the way with your wedding galleries!

3) Round-up of Local Venues & Vendors

Highlighting other wedding vendors on the blog for your wedding photography business may seem counterintuitive. But it serves a few incredible purposes! First, it’s a great way to connect further with your local wedding community. Secondly, it shows your potential clients that you are in the know when it comes to weddings in your area. Third, it’s a great piece of shareable content! All of those vendors that you just shouted out? Let them know that they’ve been features so they can share your post across their social media channels! Lastly, round-up posts are a great way to key into your SEO strategy by focusing on the wedding vendors that all work together in your metro area!

4) Long-form content

Everybody grumbles at the thought of long-form content but it’s amazing for SEO!  When I talk about long-form content, I’m talking about any blog post that is over 1200+ words in length. Is that a grumble I detect?

If you are writing on a topic that is a bit more ‘broad’ in nature as compared to your standard galleries or round-up posts, then your content has to be bigger and better than that of your competitors. Let’s say you are a wedding professional in a highly saturated market such as Miami. How many blog posts exist in the realm of “Miami Wedding Venues”. You’ll find a slew of content from your community, competitors, and publications written specifically for couples planning their weddings. Creating a piece of content when you know the competition is already fierce takes being the badass on the block. Long-form content should be a residual part of your blogging strategy paired with your wedding galleries. It’s not a one-and-done.

5) End of Year Recap

How often do you check in with your readers on what’s going on with you and your business? Serving up an end-of-year recap is a great way to provide your readers with insights. Walk them through what your year has looked like, where you’ve worked, who you’ve connected with, and how you’ve grown. It’s also a great opportunity to pepper your blog post with links back to all of the content that you’ve blogged over the previous year!

I love how transparent Instagram has become with its users about rolling out new features on their platform while listening for feedback on how they can elevate our experience 📲

I dislike how Instagram inadvertently created the 'I need 10k followers' mentality by previously only incentivizing accounts with larger size followings (aka the 'Swipe Up' ⤴️)

But, I love this platform and I love working with business owners to maximize their visibility with custom strategies. So I roll with the punches and access the platform in a way that works best for me & my clients 👯

Also, the occasional joke-y Reel doesn't hurt either! 🤷🏻‍♀️
